Like many cities throughout North America, Toronto is suffering a housing shortage, particularly in affordable housing. In the face of climate change, there is a demand for sustainable housing as well. In response to this, developers in Toronto have become creative.
One of the new developments in progress is Quayside, which will be located near the waterfront and will be built with community and environmental sustainability in mind. Quayside is planned to include six plant-drenched residential buildings, an urban forest and a boardwalk. One of the buildings will include a daycare and seniors’ services, and another will feature a rooftop urban farm.
Also, a fascinating upcoming development is Tyndale Green, which will be located on Tyndale University campus, but will be open to everyone. The 12 building development will feature a loop road for accessibility, pick ups, and drop offs, but the development will be otherwise car-free, with parking being available underground. Many of the units will be targeted towards the middle market, and are planned to be half Toronto’s average market rate.
