Amazon is getting significant praise for its approach to helping the homeless. Initially, Amazon provided a motel it owned in Seattle as a temporary site for a homeless shelter.   Instead, Amazon has decided to let the shelter stay. It will give about half of a six-story building to the shelter, providing 47,000 square feet of space to house 220 people and their pets.  The severity of Settle’s homelessness crisis had led to the Mayor declaring a state of emergency in 2015.

In San Francisco, Google, Salesforce.com and others have also funded a campaign to find permanent housing for the homeless. Many other companies such as Boeing, Microsoft and Starbucks are known for their philanthropic giving. Now that Amazon has been turning a profit, they appear to joining this group.
